Border collies were originally bread for sheep herding at farms. But they are also known for being smart dogs; which makes them easily trainable to be agility dogs, or other fun dogs. Border collies are very high energy dogs and you need to give them lots of attention. So if you want a border collie you must have enough time in your daily schedule.

Border Collie Structure

A border collie is a medium sized dog that has a very athletic frame. They have medium sized heads, oval shaped, dark brown eyes, their ears can be pointed up or drooping, and they have a strong, square like muzzle. They have a medium length tail that may curl around when it is happy, when its sad their tail goes down and between their legs when they're scared. Their legs are very strong for running fast. They can have a long, medium, or short coat and a smooth dense undercoat. Border collies can be a solid color, bi-color, or tricolor and they can be black, white, gray, brown, or a combination. Male border collies can be about 19-22 inches tall and weigh 30-45 pounds. Female border collies can be about 18-21 inches tall and weigh 25-40 pounds. They have a life span of about 12-15 years of age.
